Panic Hardware

Exit hardware for openings that have to let people out freely, coordinated with whatever controls entry on the other side.

What It Is

Controlled coming in, free going out

Panic hardware lets an opening be secured against entry while still allowing exit by pushing the bar. It is common on commercial doors and pedestrian gates that also carry a reader, strike or maglock on the entry side.

Considerations

Fitting Exit Hardware to the Opening

Door type and the access side both shape the hardware selection.

  • 01

    Door and frame type

Material, swing and prep determine which device can be installed.

  • 02

    Access-side coordination

Readers, strikes or maglocks on the entry side are planned with the exit device.

  • 03

    Request-to-exit wiring

Where the access system needs an exit signal, that wiring is part of the install.

  • 04

    Site requirements

Requirements for the opening are reviewed with the property rather than assumed.
